Possible to get a 16:9 output from 1440×1080 footage?
My understanding is the fix for the 4:3 sq pixel issue is to paste the whole thing into a 1920×1080 seq, and render it up. I did that and then output it in a 16:9 ratio (528×297), but it’s still squished. Tried both “preserving aspect ratio” option and not during output and it made no difference.
I’ve exhausted all online forums to no avail. Anyone know?

That should work.
Try exporting first the 1920×1080 movie, then downscale it to 528×297.

Your 1440×1080 footage must show “1440×1080 HD pixels” in the Browser.
That makes a 16×9 frame and when you drop that footage on a 1920×1080 SQ pixels sequence will fill the canvas without distortion.

I understand & was so pleased to see your original post about this but for some arson when I output, the fix is going away.
Another kind soul, in a different forum, said the file is missing the information that tells other devices to make it anamorphic. Apparently .ffmpeg compression software puts this info back in file so I’m going to try that this later morning – fingers crossed.

The files are not Anamorphic, but 16×9 made of HD pixels which is different.
1440×1080/HD pixels displayed on a computer will look distorted because computers use SQ pixels.
FC many times can’t tell the nature of the pixels of the imported footage, so is to you to make sure FC interprets properly the kind of footage is dealing with.
your footage must have HD-1440 pixels checked in the browser.
Must look 16×9 in the viewer.
Nothing should be checked as Anamorphic nowhere (browser, sequence0.

Thanks Rafael – I think that’s the problem : I have been making FCP sequence anamorphic. Hopefully a pass through ffmpeg will “embed” the info the file needs to avoid having to do it.
