  • Possibilities of a new IO “like” device?

    Hi All,

Just thought I would keep this board alive…just like an earlier post…I rarely have problems with my IO, it just works!

But this is what I began pondering…

What do you think the possibilies of a new aja device, mainly a HD/SD box, with a firewire connection? I know cards are probably cheaper, easier to manufacture, but I really like the idea of a capture device that just hooks up, and works…am I being too crazy?

I know I’m being a little bit of a simpleton here, and I know there are tons of things to consider like bandwith, codecs, and all the rediculous formats out there now…but can’t a guy dream?

I know the main limitation is the bandwidth thing – but I’m sure the genius folks at aja could come up with a sweet codec that could be capture over a FW400, or maybe even a FW800 connection? Not to knock avid, but if they can do it, you would figure most people can? I’m still very intruiged by companys like BitJazz/SheerVideo codec – all of this stuff is possible, can it all come together?

Ok, enough thinking about the future!

    -Dave
ps: Bob Z, if you are reading this – excellent column in the CowMag, I have to send that to my old company that wanted me to start a “film” company with a dvx100 and G5….

    REPLY –
AVID can’t. AVID does DNxHD with the AVID Adrenaline HD product which is compressed HD. AVID cannot do uncompressed HD over the firewire port. But would I like to see a new AJA I/O that could at least handle
DVCProHD – I sure would. But with everyone wanting uncompressed HD, and now 2K and 4K HD files, I doubt
that this is a priority for AJA.
