  • Position of a parented shape?

    Posted by Mike Ben on October 11, 2013 at 10:25 pm

    I’ve got a few shapes which are parented in a line. A cigar parented to a hand, parented to an arm, etc. This way when I want it all to move I just use the rotation tool, works great.

    However, I’ve created some particles and want to attach it to the cigar, so the particles (smoke) follows it around. I figured I could alt-click the particles cannon position and pickwhip it to the position of the cigar…but unfortunately the position value of the cigar doesn’t change because it is parented to another shape.

    So I guess I want to know if there’s any way to do this.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Apply the following script to the particle system’s emitter.

    TargetLayer=thisComp.layer("cigar");
    TargetLayer.toComp([150,0,0])

    You can tweak the values [150,0,0] to place the emitter precisely, as per your needs.
