Can someone please explain how the “position” numbers work when creating a mask via Event Pan/Crop?

I’m using an image with a width of 1920 and height of 1080, and yet the position numbers I see (for X and Y positions of my mask) seem to operate very differently.

For example, when creating a rectangular mask that begins at the left-most edge of my space and then stretches over to the right-most edge of the space, the X position is not given as “1920”, but half that — “960”. However, if I then move the left edge of that mask toward the right, the numbers don’t decrease, but rather increase!

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

    Hi Michael

Those numbers relate to Bézier Curves.

A very simplistic explanation would be that it is a mathematical concept that contains multidimentional points (Vector) that definer the shape in binary data as oppose to Bitmap. The zero points (x,y) are situated at the upper left corner of your frame inside the grid.

A very informative article was written by Gary Rebholz back in July 2008. Fortunately, Wayback has kept this article (and many others) in it’s archives.

    Thanks, Francois!

Unfortunately, Wayback says it hasn’t archived that article. Something tells me, however, that it would be WayOver my head! ; – )

For now, I’ll try for visual accuracy.

    Thanks again!

OK. I know why it’s not working.

The Cow site is adding stuff to the link. I will add ZZZ to the beginning of both links in the line. Just copy, paste and remove the ZZZ

AAArgh ! This is getting ridiculous…. To Peter and Richard who wrote me in private, I think I found a way around the link problem.

    Go to:

    https://web.archive.org

Then add this line in the search box and replace the ZZZ with WWW

    ZZZ.sonycreativesoftware.com/news/article.asp?articleid=55&keycode=3513

If this doesn’t work, I’ll eat this post !
