    Hi,

I am possibly going to be shooting a feature length production late summer. If possible I would like to capture uncompressed SDI from my camera using the CBK-SD01 SDI card. Getting the SDI out from the camera is therefore no problem. What I do have is a problem however is getting SDI into a portable notebook or laptop. The production will be shot out in the middle of a forest, (hence one of my needs for uncompressed SDI rather than the cameras built in DV25 compression), and the emphasis will be on speed of shooting. This will be a highly energetic production shot in a short space of time. I don’t want to be lugging a big tower along with me (not to mention that power will be at a premium. Any power we have I want to use for lights, not computers. We need to be going from location to location fairly quickly, so the least amount of equipment the better.

I’m new to SDI capture, so is there any way to get SDI into a notebook or laptop? Are there any issues with the length of cable? Further are there any external hard drives that can handle the throughput of uncompressed video?

It sounds like you’re looking for the Rosendahl Bonsai, which records uncompressed 4:2:2 PAL or NTSC via component video or SDI to a small 12V-powered box. 10 uncompressed audio channels and LTC timecode too.

    See https://www.fullcompass.com/Products/pages/SKU–77377/.

I’ve been waiting for this product since it was announced last summer, glad to see it is finally out.

Ahh, yes! I’d forgotten all about that one. Looks very interesting, and just what I need. Judging by the dimensions it looks to be small enough to be strapped to the back of the Anton Baeur too, as well as being able to power it from the DC power out of the camera. Nice. I don’t think my camera has the ability to control it though so I’d have to manually press record, but still this looks to be a really nice solution. Thanks.
