Portable Green Screens (Needing recomendations)
Posted by Francisco Espinosa on January 29, 2007 at 8:16 pmHey everyone,
Apparently my company is on the market to acquire a portable green screen set-up. Does anyone have real world experience that they wouldn’t mind sharing? I’d prefer insights to your previous working experiences with any make/brand/model/etc as oppose to us buying anything thatJohn Steventon replied 19 years, 3 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

January 29, 2007 at 9:35 pmWe’ve had good luck with Westcott. They make a two-sided blue/green version. We have a couple of the 6’x7’versions. They are pretty handy, folding up like a portable reflector and storing in an included bag. Easy to unfold but kind of tricky to fold up. I usually give them to the intern or the “new guy” to fold up. It’s hours of entertainment watching them try to figure out how to fit the thing back into that little carrying case. A “must have” skill for any noobie.
$232 in the Markertek catalog. Page 274

January 29, 2007 at 10:42 pmI had no additional information at the time of my last post, that’s why it was generic. I just found out it would be for full length shots. Probably should have the capabilities for the talent to walk into a shot for keying- possibly into a virtual set or something similar. Any additional recommendations would be appreciate, thanks in advance again everyone.

January 30, 2007 at 10:50 amHave you looked at Chromaflex?

I don’t know if it’ll be big enough for what you need (though you can guy some hefty reflectors for it) – but it’s transformed the stuff we do here. Compared to trying to light a green drape or blue paper etc – Chromaflex rocks!!
Just make sure (if you do consider it) that you use camera folks who are used to it – there’s a definite knack to placing the subject the right distance between camera and green screen.
Hope this wasn’t a waste of words.
