    Hi Creative Cow community,

I rent the Porta-Jib Traveller locally and it’s become my tool of choice for many of my video productions. I shoot with lightweight cameras (ex1, 5dmII, 7d) and so it works well for me. I’m considering buying and have been looking at the Porta-Jib Explorer system.

I’ve been researching online like crazy but haven’t found much in the way of real world reviews nor feedback. Anyone use this system and have a minute to share your thoughts on how it performs for you? Is it smooth/sturdy enough? do you find yourself using both jib and trolly on shoots? what else? Pros & cons?

    Thanks so much!

I own and use the Traveler and love it. What is the Explorer? I suppose I will have to go look at the Losmandy site?

Thanks for commenting Dan. I’m a fan of the Traveller as well. The Explorer is their new system designed for lighter cameras so it too is lighter. It’s also modular in that it can convert to a trolly as well.

Wow, that looks really sweet. I have visited their shop in Hollywood, they are nice guys and take care of you after the sale.

I have a separate slider, but it is nowhere near 6′ long. FWIW, I think that this is probably a pretty good product. They stole the weight bucket idea from the competing Hollywood Micro Jib, for travel, the weight bucket idea is perfect. When I travel with my jib, I just go to a local wall mart to buy some weights or improvise and use whatever I can hang from the back of the arm but the weight bucket is a better solution.

I don’t think I will sell my Traveller to get one of these. I have used their dolly system with the rubber railing and it is just okay, I still much prefer traditional track over the rubber tubing. The slider is nice but I rarely need a slider that is 6′ long, I do fine with my 24″ slider. But this looks to be a nice system.
