I’m using FCPHD, and I’m getting lots of pops in the sound. I read over the threads about this and have a general idea about the different sample issues, the rendering issues and other bugs that might cause pops and what could fix them. Still have a question…

My timeline is set at 48KHz and the loops I’m using from Soundtrack are showing to be at 44.1–all of my exports from ST are at that by default I think. I have sound from a Sony HDV at 48KHz. I have no other sound other than the camera and exports from soundtrack (48KHz timeline with 44.1KHz loops and 48KHz tracks from the camera). I tried muted one of the tracks that was popping, placed the exact same loop underneath it and played it again…no popping…what?? Take the replaced loop out, unmute the original, and popping again. I have about 20 layers of sound, not well organized, and it would be a major pain to have to go and find what was popping and then replace it. Why did this stop the popping and is there another way to cure the pops? Did I blow it by bringing in 44.1 into a 48 timeline? My sound friends tell me no, but I want to run this by everyone here to get an update on this issue. Perhaps someone can help me to understand the level of mastering that can done with the FCP package. I have FCP5 on the way, but need to get this out before. Sound is new for me, what should I do to get educated asap?

    Thanks,
    eric

If you export just audio do the pops go with it? Have you done a mixdown? Dose it always pop in the exact same spot? It could be a cumulative effect of playing the 44.1 and 48 together. Have you ramped up and down on ALL the sound clips on all your audio tracks? DV has a tendance to pop when a file is not faded down, even if there is no sound.

    Hope this helps-

I have exported only sound, yes, the pops are still there. A mixdown…I’m not positive what that is, can you explain? It always pops in the same spot. Funny, the clips that are giving me the most pops are ramped, and those that cut in and out with no ramp are usually not popping, but at times they are. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency with this.
