Popping sounds in Audio when using a filter
Posted by Greg Ball on January 2, 2020 at 6:22 pmI’ve tried using some filters to remove echo and boot levels in a video. For some reason I’m hearing the audio cut out for a frame or 2. Any ideas why?

January 2, 2020 at 7:27 pmIn my experience, that’s usually a sign that either the hard drive or processor can’t keep up with the workload. Does the audio still drop out when you render the footage?

January 2, 2020 at 9:33 pmHi Jeff,
It’s only a 3-minute video. Everything is rendered, as there are no dotted lines on top of the timeline.

January 3, 2020 at 3:19 amif it’s rendering out with the clicks and it works fine with the plugin switched off, then it’s probably an issue with the plugin. Might be time to check you’ve got the latest version and/or chat with their support people.

January 3, 2020 at 3:23 pmHi Jeff, I actually don’t see any renders with the audio filters. But they still cut out. Also I’ve had this problem before with different filters from different plugin providers. Somehow it’s something in my system. Thoughts?

January 3, 2020 at 3:42 pmWhat happens if you actually render out a complete video rather than just playing back your timeline?
I agree with Jeff that dropouts are usually due to your CPU not being able to handle the work it’s being asked to do. Plugins to reduce echo (e.g., “deverberate”) can be very CPU-intensive. See this related thread at fcp.co: https://www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/27905-occasional-and-random-audio-dropout-during-timeline-playback

January 8, 2020 at 3:56 amI’ve had a similar thing happen when the registration for a particular plug in gets messed up and becomes “unlicensed” – like when I’ve upgraded system software, etc..
