Pop clip to timeline
Posted by Harry Putnam on September 27, 2010 at 10:58 pmI’ve been digging around a while looking for a keyboard shortcut to pop a clip to the timeline.
I mean like double clicking something in a media bin.
Is there such a critter, or can one be made within the scope of beginner skill set… (nearly non-existent)

You got my problem right.
And thanks for the response.. With your input I investigated more thoroughly.
Here, I habitually keep the media `views’ setting on `detailed’. At that setting a double click offers the chance to rename the item. But does not `pop’ it to the timeline.
However in either `Thumbnail’ or `List’ mode, a double click does send the item to the timeline.
That seems like a peculiar difference to find.
Why would `detailed’ view have different responses to keystrokes?
But anyway, now I know how to get the desired action.
Thanks again. -

September 29, 2010 at 7:50 pmIt might be different in other versions, but in Movie Studio HD 10, two single clicks on a file in detailed view allows you to rename the file, but a double-click puts it on the timeline. Are you sure you’re doing a double click?
Note that there’s an option in Preferences that makes a double-click load a file into the trimmer, if you prefer to use the trimmer before putting clips on the timeline.

Well, the same timing and motion that pops a clip onto the timeline in `list’ mode does not do so when in `detailed’ mode. I carefully tried to make sure of the timing after seeing your post.
It must be getting interpreted as 2 single clicks. But there must be some small difference when in detailed mode… because I am using the same motion and timing.
Even quite slow paced clicks when in `LIST’ mode will pop the media to timeline. But no amount of speed or sloth, when in `Detailed’ mode will get that result here.
I did not use any scientific measurement so … who knows if its my click style… but I’m convinced something changes when in `detailed’ mode.
Thanks for you input.
