  • Poor quality pixelated text in Menus using DVD Studio Pro.

Posted by Mike Hayes on March 13, 2008 at 3:19 am

    Hi there,

I’m using DVD Studio Pro. I create menus in Photoshop and export flattened .psd files.

I work in PAL. This problem is worse in 16×9 (anamorphic).

I create the menus at the true original res of 1024×576. When the menus are imported into DVD Studio Pro the text becomes jagged and pixelated. I understand that non-square pixels are causing this, but I don’t know of a solution.

What is the best way to bring menus and text into DVD Studio Pro?

I have searched a lot and noone has a great solution.

    Thanks heaps,

    Mike

    ‘true’ 16 : 9 video is 720 * 576 in Pal, non-square pixels
(same res as 4:3, other pixel aspect ration)
In the latest versions of Photoshop, you can set it to non-square 16:9 Pal.
Or, scale down the images in Photoshop to 720 x 576 before bringing them in DVD SP

    Mike,

I had a simular problem previously. After much searching on this site and Apple’s forums I found out that you can import PSD menus at a higher resolution than I first thought – 300dpi.

Also what really helped was bringing the menu in as 720×576 and then setting the menu to 16×9 once imported into DVD Studio Pro. This meant I created the menu as a 1024×576 graphic, then resized it to 720×576 so it appears anamorphic ready for importing into DVD Studio Pro.

One other small trick is to add a 1 – 3 pixel ‘blur’ in photoshop.

    Regards

    Bridget

Import Photoshop File into your Editing application. Create 5 sec movie and export as Animation Codec
    It will look great!
