Poor quality of still image upon lossless output
Greetings!
This is my first post and I’ll start with a technical one.
I have an AE project which contains multiple still images.
Some of the images were adjusted to draft quality because they appear more crisp as a result.
The image that I’m having a problem with is a still image (JPEG) of a web page. It looks fine in Photoshop so the quality does not appear to be an issue.
When I have the layer quality set at Best within AE, it softens the image too much so the text gets a tad fuzzy but when it’s set at draft quality it appears nice and crisp.
When I do a RAM preview, it appears crisp just the same as when I’m just parked on it.
When I do a lossless, uncompressed output it appears soft just as it did when I had the layer quality set at Best.
I am wondering if you can or can’t mix different quality settings for different layers?
Just so you know, the other photos I have set at draft quality appear nice and crisp on output. It’s just this one that’s giving me a problem.
Any input/theories/smacks in the face would be much appreciated.

I’m guessing that your layer’s position and/or anchor point are not integer values—i.e., pixels in the source image are not lined up with whole pixels in the compsition.
See this page for more details. Here’s an excerpt:
“If the pixels of a layer aren’t positioned directly on the pixel boundaries of the composition, a small amount of blur occurs—very similar to anti-aliasing. This blur is not a problem for an object in motion, because objects in motion have motion blur, but it can soften fine details in a static image. Also, if an image is moving slowly or at just the wrong speed, the image can appear to oscillate between sharpness and blurriness.”———————————————————————————————————

Thank you very much for your recommendation, Todd. I was all set to try it this morning when I realized what was happening. When choosing my output module, I chose the “Best” setting rather than the “Current” setting. With this setting chosen, it introduced anti-aliasing which robbed the specific photo of much of its detail. I feel kind of stupid not to have thought of that but I guess I learned something which is ALWAYS god. Thanks again!
