I have Vegas Pro 8 and there is no AC-3 option.

Diane, as I recall, you said you have DVD Architect which makes this very strange as installing it installs the AC-3 option in Vegas.
Which versions and builds (found in the Help files of each app) of Vegas and DVD Architect do you have?

Diane, my apologies if I’m wrong but I have to ask if these are legitimate copies of Vegas & DVDA or…
Your problem sounds very similar to people using “less than legal” copies of the software.

    Mike,
I bought Vegas 4.0 in ’03 from Sonic Foundry and the Pro upgrade in ’07 from Sony. Now, this is really strange but I just put a WAV file in a project to check again, looked for the AC-3 option and there it was, 3rd down. I’m mystified because when I looked before, it wasn’t an option!
I’ve been having problems on this PC and had to clear the CMOS yesterday but I don’t see how Vegas would have been effected.
Sorry about the confusion, you’re right, the AC-3 option is there.

Diane, I’m glad to hear that you finally got it resolved.
Yes, computers can be very finicky, even at the best of times.

I am also not seeing Ac-3. I have .aa3, mp3 sony audio. I have a licenced version of Sony Vegas 8 that I purchased from Best Buy a while back. Diane mentioned not seeing it then having it appear. Is there some way to select only the audio to have it appear?
    Any help is appreciated!

The Dolby Digital encoder comes with DVD Architect. If you only have Vegas Pro 8 and don’t have DVD Architect then you won’t have it.

Thanks for the quick response. I have both Vegas 8.0 and Architect 4.5 but I purchased them separately. I had vegas, then downloaded Architect as a trial before buying the full version. Is there a way to synch them together or should I reinstall Architect?
    Thanks again.

Just uninstalled and reinstalled Architect 4.5 and it does in fact say Sony DVD Arch Trial. I bought this off of sony’s online store for $39.95 and it doesn’t say anything about only being a trial version. Any reason to think that the $40 version should not support the AC-3?

[Burton Loupee III] I bought this off of sony’s online store for $39.95 …

What you bought was DVD Architect Studio and not the full version of DVD Architect.

…and it doesn’t say anything about only being a trial version.

You should have received a serial number with the program so it shouldn’t show up as being a trial version.
Have you installed any other versions of DVD Architect previously?

Any reason to think that the $40 version should not support the AC-3?

None that I can think of but, as this is the Studio version and not the Pro, there may be restrictions that I’m not aware of.
