Poor Quality Fade Transitions
Posted by Dean Fischer on March 21, 2010 at 2:17 pmI’m rendering an mpeg2 main concept movie of photos at 1280×720. The quality of the photos and movie are really good except for the fades in and out. Any kind of fade such as cross effect or just straight fades are very poor quality (like the kind of poor quality you get if an flv is rendered too low).
I have all the correct settings and export render is set to best. Has anyone had this issue or can help me?
Thanks!

March 21, 2010 at 2:30 pmDo you have all the photos set to reduce interlace flicker in the “switches” Also, all your pics should have this selected, they look much better that way. Hope this helps!

March 21, 2010 at 2:39 pmI don’t know how to delete a post but never mind. I figured it out…….the pictures may look god but the poor transition quality is because i’m stretching 900×675 pictures to 1280×720……..that doesn’t work very well.

March 21, 2010 at 3:02 pmI tried the interlace flicker in the “switches”, but it didn’t help.
I just thought of something. In preview the fades are perfect. It’s the render that the bad quality happens.
If the preview looks good should not the rendered movie look as good?
I’m new and i don’t understand why a preview looks good and the render does not.

March 21, 2010 at 3:20 pmIs your project settings set for best? Also, set your preview for the best full but also select adjust size and quality for optimal playback. Select a region over your transition and select shift+B. This will give you a ram preview in the highest quality. It will allow you to see what should be rendered, and if they look good. It will also allow you to preview in a manner that is best for your computer when doing basic editing. Another thing, when you render out be sure to check the custom button and under project select use project settings. This will guarantee that the best quality is being rendered. I keep my default projects settings to best so I never have to worry about it. Let me know if this helps!

March 21, 2010 at 4:10 pmThanks for all your help. I’m going to try your suggestions.
I have questions about project settings.
Are these good?
pixel format – 8 bit
full resolution rendering best
motion blur – Gaussian
deinterlace method – blend fieldsThanks!

March 21, 2010 at 4:50 pmRight click on the external preview monitor above the preview window or the preview setting. To select a “loop” region, just click and hold on the area above the timeline and drag to the left of right to select a region. Be aware that you will have a limited amount of RAM to use to preview a section of your video. It will take a few seconds to minutes to build a RAM preview depending on the project and any FX you may be using….Good Luck!
