I have a question for all you 3d modeling gurus…I am trying to make a cut in a polygon object like a rectangle box I need to model the top of the box a little differently with a sort of swoosh type of design on the front… I cant for the life of me figure out how to create this type of sweeping cut to my polygon without distorting the hell out of it especially when i use a hyper nurb to smooth it out

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have a picture or drawing? Do you really need HN for a rectangular box? If so, the answer generally lies in having enough support geometry, and the right kind. Hard to explain generically.

Adam here is the basic setup, I had a pretty good deal going here before and I deleted it all when I couldn’t attach the arc to the cube and then turn it into a polygon for further editing…I have included a poor picture of basically what I am trying to model (03.jpg)

Adam, I thank you so very much for this tutorial. It was way more than I could have ever asked for, Thank thank thank you. It was driving me crazy actually, I probably tried it a twenty different ways. Those nGons are super tricky. Also I have never used the bevel tool quite like that before to split geometry evenly. I always made 2 cuts and spaced it out using the scale tool. At any rate your tutorial was Superb! I know I am basically professing my undying thanks for your help but seriously you don’t have any idea what this means to me and my family!
