Point me please I know this has been discussed.
Posted by Reggie Spires on November 27, 2008 at 12:08 amCan some one point me to a GOOD comparision of CS4 and FCP2 .. just went to Mac and wondering if it is worth learning a new package.
Currently on Windows use CS4 with Zaxwerks plugins
Is FCP2 better than CS4 from a performance and work flow stand point?

November 27, 2008 at 12:52 amEach suite has its own strengths and weaknesses. CS4 has incredible integration across its entire suite of applications with Adobe Dynamic Link, but FCP is more in demand and so FCP users get more work, at least they do now. What’s more important to you?

November 27, 2008 at 1:02 amTHis all depends…what is your workflow? What sort of stuff are you working on? What applications do you use to accomplish this? Each NLE is strong in areas and weak in others. Knowing what you need to accomplish and what will best accomplish that is key.
Here is a lively discussion…

November 27, 2008 at 1:06 amI use AE with zaxwerks stuff .. the renders are horribly long though I haven’t used it on my bran new macbook pro 🙂
How is Motion vs AE ..
I build more commercials than anything..
I don’t think there can be much difference in PPro and final cut ..
It would be more on the AE side.

PPro and FCP are every similar.
AE and Motion are very different. Few who know AE would consider switching to Motion.
FCS has Color, there’s nothing even close to its power in any other suite of apps.

If you can afford it, I’d also suggest a combination of both.
I find I use both quite a bit. For my main editor I use FCP over PPro. I personally find FCP faster for me to use and a superior product. My first home suite was PPro based and I thought it was the cats-a** until I started working more and more with FCP over Avid at various shops.. I’d never switch back. For quick mo-graph I use Motion over AE because it is so fast, but for building bigger comps AE works better and has greater functionality (IMO)
If you work with client logos and various other still gfx, then you will almost certainly need at least photoshop, if not also illustrator, as Motion plays nice with .ai and .eps files to keep your logos nice and crisp. There is no alternative in FSC for either of these programs.
STP is far better than Audition or Soundbooth, but on a recent long form project it fell apart on me, so on the next I think I’m going back to Protools LE.
I personally find DVDSP far superior to Encore, but Encore can do blueray(in theory)
If I had to choose one suite over the other, I’d definitely go with FCS over CS4, however you will most likely need to get a hold of Photoshop.
Both have their ups and downs. I have both and use every program from FCS and compliment that with PS, AE and AI. The rest of the CS programs I feel don’t add up to their FCS counterparts, so I don’t use them.
