There is the G-DRIVE mini found here G-TECH G-DRIVE-mini Ultra Portable FireWire and USB Storage Solutions
Unfortunately their 7200RPM drives are showing out of stock, but perhaps other VAR’s like videoguys.com might have some.

Another option might be WiebeTech Micro Storage Solutions – FireWire and USB Hard Drives and putting your own drive in one of their portable enclosures.

hi, I just checked out the site! THey only have 2 models that are 7200 RPM, right? One of them is a combo drive and it’s only $4 more than the one that has only Firewire. It costs $270. Also, it doesn’t say, but do u know if it uses the new faster firwire connection or the slower one?
Also, u have been using this for over a year to edit FCP on, right? I will be doing the same thing, not using it as a storage drive but as a workhorse editing drive. You have found it to be very reliable and rugged to take with u on the road?

when i purchased, the firewire only version was cheaper than the combo so i went with it.

it’s worked flawlessly for me – on the road – it’s rugged enough – just dont drop it from a height or spill coffee on it (standard drive care)!!!

my drive has two FW400 ports – i dont think they have a FW800 version.
