    Hi

I rendered a sequence of PNG images from 3Ds Max. I then imported the sequence into Premiere CS3, and figured that I’d remove the Alpha channel. This is what happened:

On the left: The Alpha Channel is set to Ignore, but it is only ignored in the semi-transparent areas, like the glass. Not around the object, which is what I want.

On the right: As the sequence looks when imported with alpha.

I know I can just render the sequence without alpha and the problem i solved. But I’d really like to know, if there is a solution to the problem, that doesn’t involve rerendering or an extra step through After Effects og Digital Fusion.

    That is strange indeed.

    What version of PPro?

Would it be possible to post one of the PNG files? I would like to have a look at it.

    Cheers

    Indeed.

You can download the test-PNG file from my website:

    https://www.maans.dk/download/test.png
    Right click and save as.

    I’m using Premiere Pro CS3 version 3.2.0(374)

A shot in the dark, but I noticed you’re using 16 bits per channel. You might have to use 8 bits per channel to get it to work as expected.

Try re-exporting just a few frames as a test and see what PPro thinks of them.

I tried the 8bit pr channel. Same problem.

I had a chance to look into this.

In your example image, what you are seeing in the refracted parts is not coming from the video in PPro, it is part of the image itself.

If you ignore alpha then PPro displays the image as it is, with no transparency and no compositing with other video layers.

    It is working correctly.

    Hi Eddie

That’s the problem! When I say ignore alpha, the image is still displayed without a BG.

The semitransparent parts of the image, eg the glass, respons correctly and turns off the alpha, but the 100% transparrent areas are kept transparent even though I told PPro to ignore the alpha.

If it works on your worksstation, I’d like to know what version of PPro you’r running.
