I have wifi adapters to provide remote control (via a nifty web interface) on my PMW-200 cameras. I see that the X70 boasts a wifi interface, but I can’t find any detail. It looks like it may only work with the CBM application, which doesn’t look like it gives control over zoom, iris, focus, et cetera.

Are there any users out there who could shed some light on this? I’m looking to use them in an application where I really need lens control over wifi.

You can control certain aspects of the camera if you leave them on manual setting before switching to wifi control.
I am having connection problems though. If the camera is not directly in sight of the phone/tablet it does not connect. I am trying to see if I can extend the X70’s wifi signal with an extender/access point. So far no success. Couldn’t find any instructions anywhere.

For anyone looking for this info: I am able to control WiFi cameras from ‘around the corner’ by using range extender function available in certain routers. Do not connect the smartphone or tablet before you connect the camera to the extender.

I’m trying to do the same thing! to extend the range of the camera’s wifi by using a wifi extender. I’d be curious to hear your success and failure with this. For example, do you get more range on the camera end (meaning moving the camera further away from the extender) or only on the controller end?

The range extender acts as a “middle man” so its range goes both ways. How far will depend on the extender and what else nearby is reflecting or blocking the signal. When directly trying to connect the camera at about 50 feet away (indoors) the connection was iffy. I used the extender about 20 feet away from the camera (about 40 feet away from the controller) I can keep the connection working.
This is my typical layout for dance recitals: X70/AX53 center of the proscenium looking at the dancer. Extender 20 feet away, house right, hidden behind the lectern but antenna visible to both camera and controller. Controller (Android tab) with me about 40 feet away, a bit house right. Works.
Earlier when I tried unsuccessfully to control the camera from afar it was not reliable so one night I lie in bed wondering, “will it work with range extenders?” Next morning I ran to Microcenter (actually I drove, even though it is only running distance) and tried many and found out that not all of the routers list if they work as extenders and not all of them work with this setup. I have near me now these that do work: Asus RT-N10P, Asus RT-N12, Asus RT-AC53U. I have not tried the extenders without antenna because I thought if all units can actually see each other the chances are better to be connected. Besides, the black antennae on the side of the stage do not invite attention.
