hi wonder if anyone can advise.

My trusty EX1 (about three years old with latest firmware upgraded by Sony dealer and serviced last year, not used more than five times since) has developed a strange fault.

I can’t see any picture on the LCD or EV when framing up or recording.

If I switch to full auto (not nice) the picture comes back
Even more bizarrely in strong light there is some picture but its quite dark.

This happened very suddenly on Monday.
All the usual suspects have been checked, ND settings etc.
Does anyone have a clue as I have a shoot coming up

    thanks for reading

sorry if this is obvious .. but based on the strong light situation.. has the LCD brightness setting somehow been set way down.. ? I don’t use this camera but presume it has such a setting..
Sorry if this is the first thing you checked !!

Almost sounds like the backlight has gone dead since you said you can see an image in bright sunlight.

Don’t know if this is it or not but there is a switch underneath the carrying handle that says LCD B.Light with an on and off. Make sure that it is on. I accidentally switched mine off a couple of weeks ago and my lcd screen went dark. It took me awhile to figure it out. Good luck!

    thankyou all very much!

The backlight was open but I set it to almost maximum thinking it was on its way out and then spotted an ‘all reset’ in the same menu, and after restoring the picture profile we are ready to go. This is a huge relief there’s currently not enough work to pay for a Sony repair
