PMW-EX1 Lens remote
Posted by Accountneedsrealnameupdate on November 18, 2007 at 10:31 amHello
The manual refers to remote control of the lens functions but I can not find a connector reference.
Can anyone tell me what remote works with this camera and where the connector is?

November 18, 2007 at 2:24 pmThis seems to be the “last great mystery” about the camera. Apparently something is still in the works by somebody for that connection. Sony wouldn’t give me any details on that.

November 18, 2007 at 10:15 pmIn the camera i had in my hands, the connector was at the frontend of the lens. Kind of odd place.
It is a Fujinon lens, so maybe they will announce a zoom handle near future. I dont think it will be a Pro-version though.. ;(
(I’m in EU, so PAL cameras could look different, which i doubt) -

November 18, 2007 at 10:18 pmI posed the same question to the Sony product manager at the HD Expo, Nov. 7. There is a 8 pin port in the front side of the hand grip labeled “REMOTE”. The answer I received is that there will be an announcement from sony and/or
Fujinon in a few (2 or 3) weeks regarding the remote and it functionality. All I was told is that a device will be coming and would control zoom, focus and maybe something else. They (Sony) is walking a fine line in function/price with this camera.Bill Bork

November 19, 2007 at 4:41 amThe company I talked to yesterday at our local trade show said that they were soon going to have the wiring diagram for the the lens control plug in their hands. I think he said they were getting the EX service manual. They were then going to match up the internal wiring to a standard lens socket for the controllers available now. Guess they don’t want to wait for Sony. Glad they’re doing the R & D and not me.

November 19, 2007 at 5:43 amThanks for the replies guys.
I also noted that Sony have not announced a tele adapter for the camera and there is only a widescreen setting option in the steadyshot menu so this suggests there will not be one from Sony.
This may not trouble me but may concern others.
I guess Century Optics or someone else may come to the party.

November 22, 2007 at 11:48 amI meant, is not like until now that you had to buy a PAL or NTSC camera. Now those are just two options of the many that the processor allows.

Exactly, and I think too, with tape based cameras it was more of a problem, but not with disk or flash memory recording.

I have a LIBEC tripod handle that I use with all of our pro Canon lenses and it works very well. The entire handle was only $250 from a guy in St. Louis around 5 years ago (New – on E Bay)
