Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Plugins question

I downloaded a project file from the web (from theanvel.com) and when I open it up, it has to be updated to CS3 from an AE5.5 file.

Strangely, it can’t find a plugin: Basic 3D. So it uses the “default plugin” (whatever that is).

But when I look in my plugins folder, there it is: Basic_3D.plugin.

Now, when I click on that plugin, it will open After Effects, but then tell me that it doesn’t recognize the file type.

Is there something I have to do to install it properly?

I no longer have 5.5 loaded on this machine, but I just looked in the 6.0 folder and the naming convention has changed.

In 6.0, it’s named: Basic 3D (Note the space) whereas in CS3, it’s called: Basic_3D.plugin

So, what happens when you click yes to use the default? Which project file are you looking at? If I have it, I’ll take a look for you.

The project file is on this page:

    https://theanvel.com/free_aeps.php

and is the third one listed: Beginners After Effects 7 Project for Download.

So, to answer the other posted question: I don’t know if it’s doing what it’s supposed to. I just got the program, and this is the first thing I’m trying.

My assumption is that the plugin is working, but the manual that comes with the program says they will have “.aex” extensions, very specifically not “.plugin” extensions. So, that’s part of the confusion.

    I’m on a Mac.

Perhaps Dean has updated his file. I just downloaded it and it wouldn’t open in 6 or 6.5 as it said it was made in 7.0. I was able to open it fine in 7.0. I also opened it in CS3 and it did tell me that it needed to update to the newer version, but everything was fine. No warning.

I would try downloading it again.

I’ll do that. I just downloaded it on Thursday (or last week anyway) so I must have just missed the update.

I’ll report back if I still get the warning.

Yup, totally different. Everything is working just great.

    Thanks again.
