    Hey guys,

I’m getting more clients for my videography business (up until now it’s mostly been a costly hobby) and I know I should probably consider upgrading my camera and mic setup, as well as getting editing software to go with my copy of Vegas 9 pro.

What suggestions do you guys have? Right now all I have is NewBlue’s image stabilizer, which has been moderately successful for me, though I almost inevitably have to crop the picture for much shaking or movement since its fill and duplicate functions are pretty bad.

I know I should probably get Cineform soon since I want to be able to provide 24 fps footage in addition to 30 fps footage. Also, Soundforge and a sound effects package.

My jobs are usually events like fashion shows, comedy shows, and parties. Right now I’m shooting on a Canon Vixia HV30 (with a wide angle lens and a few filters) and a Rode mounted shotgun mic. The setup works great but has its limitations. I’ll be upgrading hardware too, but that’s for a separate thread if things work out.

    Thanks.

You might want to invest in a good solid tripod. The best solution for shaky video is to not shake in the first place.

If you upgrade to Vegas Pro 10, and if you only buy one plug-in, my recommendation would be Boris Continuum Complete 7 (BCC7). It is actually 150+ plug-ins that include Chroma Key, Motion Tracking, Optical Stabilization, Noise Reduction, Super Slow Motion, 3D Text and Motion Graphics, loads of FX, generators, and other tools. It may seem like a lot of money at first ($595) but if you bought a few $99 plug-ins, you’d be at that spending level pretty fast and not have 1/4 of the capability. But BCC7 only works with Vegas Pro 10 so you would have to upgrade.

    Other plug-ins to consider:

    Boris FX, Graffiti, & RED
    Pixelan Creative Ease
proDAD Mercalli, VitaScene, HeroGlyph, & Adorage
    Neat Video

Also consider a script productivity tool. These can save you hours and hours of editing making you more profitable:

VASST Ultimate S Pro, Ultimate S Lite
    Sony Vegas Pro Production Assistant
    JetDV Excalibur
    Vegasaur

I’m sure others will think of more.

Just remember, it’s not about the flashy effects… it’s about “telling a story“. Good luck in your new business. 😉

Thanks. Oh, and I should mention that I do have a tripod, some lights, a pvc pipe dolly track, and glide cam.

Gah. Vegas 10, huh? I just upgraded to 9! But that Boris software package sounds very appealing.

Im gonna recommend 2 things you’ve probably never considered:
Beautiful Soundtracks (rich, upbeat and soulfull music mixes) for
your various projects. That is one notch that can make you stand out
of the lot…..And (John mentioned this) Great Story telling, capture
your events with passion, and dont miss those memorable moments. Capture also from different camera angles.
Plugins are very handy, but dont get caught thinking they are the
answers for producing unique and creative video projects.

Hi there, I just wanted you to know I’m having some problems downloading the BCC7 Motion Tracking or ‘Match’ Plugin for Sony Vegas Pro 10.

-For some reason, I do everything correctly and follow all the instructions from your site, I’ll get it on my computer, install it, but when I go to the composite mode to try and add the effects in none of the BCC7 things will be there, niether in MediaFX, either. I don’t know what to do, and any and all help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance-

    -Colin.

There are two versions of BCC7. One for 64-bit and one for 32-bit. They are two separate downloads. The 64-bit version will only appear in the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 10. Likewise the 32-bit version will only appear in the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 10. Are you sure that you downloaded the correct version of BCC7 for your version of Vegas?

I would contact Boris FX technical support then. If you installed both versions and you don’t see them showing up under Video FX something is seriously wrong with your PC configuration. The Boris FX technical support team will help you with this. You can also post over on the Boris FX forum here at the COW and they can help you there.
