PLugin for Comic Book panels and look
Posted by Rob Longo on August 27, 2007 at 2:35 pmHello all,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any FCP plug ins that allow you to set up multiple frames (grids?) of video ala comic book panel style. I am also looking for a nice preset that will give my footage a comic book look.
This is for my fun and cheesy online internet series Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice.
Much thanks for any recs.

August 27, 2007 at 3:28 pmdigital anarchy has a comic look plugin just released.
As for the grid, you could easily make one in photoshop
and use it as a template. -

Any help?

August 27, 2007 at 9:56 pmI’ve been an editor so long that I’ve seen everyone’s idea of the color red and what they think it should be. So, it’s sort of a joke… Do those lips look red too you?
Is that the color red you want to use?

August 27, 2007 at 10:08 pmDunno if it will help, but as I’ve been looking round my MacPro, I noticed an app called Comic Life. It lets you easily make comics – speech bubbles and all – so you may be able to use it to get a template for a graphic. I think it uses pics from iPhoto, but you could substitue blue for all frames and use it to chroma key video in.
There’s also a neat (and free) plug-in for a comic look (along with some others)
here.
Hope it helps!
Jason

August 29, 2007 at 3:30 amHey,
Comic Life isn’t a plug-in (it’s a stand-alone program) but it’s very cool and very easy to learn.
You can set up panels and speech bubbles, etc in minutes then export the image files to a multitude of high-rez formats.
You can also import images from video to ‘treat’ in endless combinations of comic book looks. The best part about it really is how easy it is to use.
We just made a music vid that uses the good old, ‘comic book panels as backgrounds’ (what an original idea, ha ha). Looks great though and took no time to set up with Comic Life.
Highly recommend it (and no, I’m not getting a commission).
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
ALEX

September 20, 2007 at 2:23 pmThank you every one for the advice. Alex do you have a link to the music video you did with Comic Life?
Recently I let my editor go and now need to find someone to do this for me. Or I should just do it myself.
Thanks everyone for the examples and suggestions. Once I implement it I will provide a link if anyoen is interested.

September 20, 2007 at 3:01 pmHey,
The music vid is not due to be released for awhile yet, but the Producer has put up a website that will lead up to it. I think he’s going to post a movie-type ‘trailer’ soon – though I’m not sure if there will be any of the comic backdrops in that one.
Check it out though, if you’re interested:
Cheers,
ALEX
