Plug-Ins Missing…but AE doesn’t think so
Hi, I’m using CS3 and went to use an effect that I’ve in past versions: PSclassic and/or PSLEclassic to make sparkles. I couldn’t find them listed in CS3, but found them in 7.0 and copied them over into the plug ins folder on CS3 and started AE. I get an error message that there are two versions of this plug in on my computer and I need to quit and delete the older one. There are no other versions of these effects, I even did a windows search for the file. Anyone know if these effects are compatible with CS3 and what my issue could be? This client has to have sparkles 🙂 Thanks.

The two effects you are looking for are located in AE folder->Plug-ins->Effects->CycoreFX, (or something similar if on windows). They are both “obsolete”, meaning that they will be applied only if you open an old project which had either of these applied, ie. you can not apply them from the effect menu. You could apply them using an animation preset though.
Both effects have been replaced by “CC Particle Systems II” which can do everything either of the old ones could do and with better quality (more options, better precision and motion blur support).
I believe there is a project demonstrating this on cycorefx.com which you can download, not sure if you can download animation presets to access PSclassic and PSLEclassic but you could always ask for it. -
Thank you very much, mystery solved. I saw Particle II and wondered if it was a replacement…I’ll give it a shot tomorrow. Appreciate it.
