Plug ins and OSX 10.11 El Capitan
Finally started using a plugin–Color Finale–and have read many times about upgrading the system with plugins. I went to OSX 10.11 and just like magic, Color Finale doesn’t function correctly. The floating window doesn’t open. I guess Color Finale is trying to fix it. Upgrader beware.
Wrote the post and then opened FCPX from Color Finale and then it worked ok, so disregard the above comments I guess.

When El Capitan was released, they sent an email to users warning of the issue and saying opening the LUT Manager would fix it. Good to see you figured it out.

In general, all plug-ins are going to cause a range of issues. Some will be perfect, others will work, but with reduced performance. Some won’t work at all. So before upgrading the OS, check with the vendors of your favorite tools and check to see if they are compatible or if an update is required.

Playing with FCPX and El Capitan on a spare iMac, there’s definitely a bug or three lurking. Not just in the third party apps but in FCPX itself. Not big things but lots of instability, graphics glitches, and things just not quite working right.
I always recommend holding off before upgrading an operating system, but it’s definitely a wise thing to do in this case. Hopefully we’ll see an FCPX update soon because performance definitely feels a lot snappier running on 10.11.
