Plug ins 32 or 64 bit?
Posted by Paul Gregory on July 22, 2012 at 7:10 amI’m using a 64 bit version of Vegas pro 10. If I were to get some plug in’s from Boris or others does it matter if they are 32 bit or does it have to be 64 bit as well?
Thanks in advance

July 22, 2012 at 12:30 pmI’ve got some plugins that work in 32 bit only so I have both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Vegas installed.

Yes, it matters and yes, if you want to use the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro you MUST but the 64-bit version of any plug-ins you wish to use. The good news is that most plug-ins like Boris RED, Boris Continuum Complete (BCC8), Magic Bullet, NewBlueFX, etc, are all 64-bit now.
As Mike pointed out, if you do run across a plug-in that you have to have but is only 32-bit, you can install the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro alone side the 64-bit version and use 32-bit plug-ins for those projects but you must obviously only use the 32-bit version of Vegas for the project.

July 22, 2012 at 8:01 pmdepends on what you are doing but what counts the most for me is the smooth workflow. ask yourself is it really worth to jump from vegas x64 to 32, render some files in it with your 32 plugins, go back to vegas x 64, import those files… what i loved about vegas is that i can do most of stuff in it and i don’t need almost anything else. i sometime jump to photoshop but it is directly from vegas – i have a script for this. occasionally i do frameserving for AE, i do what i need to do, and i come back to vegas easily.
i would hate vegas and my work if i had to switch between two versions of the same application. ask yourself a question: are those x32 plugins so very important? can’t you really leave them behind? which are they? as far as i know today all best plugins for vegas are available for x64.
it is only my private opinion that i ‘d like to share. of course i respect you may have different preferences.
good luck

July 24, 2012 at 7:07 amI use Home Studio Platinum 11. Does it have 32 and 64 bit versions? If so, how can I find out what I have, and how would I install the other version if I needed to? I have Windows 7: 64 bit.

July 24, 2012 at 10:30 amMovie Studio Platinum 11 is only 32-bit so there is no 64-bit version.
