Doesn’t look like the latest drivers for the Io support this. The Io HD might, I didn’t look, but the regular Io doesn’t look like it has it. Not sure on the new LHi either.

May 6, 2009 at 2:51 amWell, if that don’t spin the old Nipkow disc… Apparently you CAN do it with the AJA IO after all…!
I’ll have to get back to you guys tomorrow with the exact settings I tried… but the workflow was to use SDI in thru the IO to an 8-bit NTSC timeline. I laid my new full-screen graphic in on the V2 layer and played back out SDI into the DVCPro25 deck. The resulting tape was walked over to another DVCPro shoebox deck that was hooked up direct composite video in to a stand-alone DMR series Panasonic DVD recorder. I burned a three minute sample to DVD in real time, finalized it. Took it home and just now tried playing it. I played it in my G4 imac and…. nothing, as far as captioning appeared.
But…
I played the same DVD in my home dual deck VHS/DVD recorder, and…. it reads the CC captions PERFECTLY, even across the “edit point” and beyond, no loss of text info.
So, while not yet “universally” playable by my book, technically it IS a success.“I didn’t know it was impossible when I did it”.

I remember it was a pretty big deal when it came out because it was the first product for FCP to allow it.

This issue is not the card – The Issue is FCP- which does not support maintaining of CC info/ metadata on ANY captured content.

Thanks for clearing that up Gary. I thought it was something coming over from the FS1

The Matrox MXO2 and the latest drivers, 1.3.1, can do this. They have their ways.

Interesting, they can do something that Final Cut Pro can’t do. I’d have to see that in action to see how they can make software do something it can’t do.

does the mac dvd player even support that?
usually the cc area gets cropped out when converting to dvd.

I have captured and output closed captioned data on the Kona-LHe and black magic
multibridge extreme. both with older drivers. Works like a champ.it’s the HD closed captioning that only currently works on the MXO2 and
the latest Kona Drivers.SD video is not a problem at all…..I’ve been doing Closed captioning all this
month. -

May 6, 2009 at 4:42 pmmark see my post above.
closed captioning capture and layback with SD video is not a problem at all.
I’ve been doing it a lot lately.its HD 708 CC data that is the problem that only the MX02 and the Latest Kona
driver solves. -

Hi Gary,
I’ve been capturing and outputting closed captioning on SD video for the last month
with no problem at all. cc data is maintained.HD closed captioning is another story though and only the mxo2 and the future kona
driver fixes that.I’m doing SD though and it works great.
