Dear Cow members, I was noticing that the video I’m working on did not look like it was 1920 X 1080 since there were borders on the sides, after taking a closer look at the clip information listed on the browser window, I saw that it said that the frame size of the SEQUENCE is set to 720 X 480. I don’t know why FCP didn’t automatically change the timeline and sequence settings to match the footage I am working on. I have tried manually adjusting the audio/video settings and then creating a new sequence with the prores422 1920 X 1080 setting and pasting all of my edited video clips there. However it just makes the video significantly smaller in size… I do not know what my options are. If anyone out there has any idea on how to fix this problem you would save my day! if not i fear i would have to start from scratch =(

Just open the Sequence Settings window and press the Load Sequence preset button at lower left of that window. Select the correct preset for the sequence ie the one that matches the source. When that is done then “select all” in the sequence and choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence … hopefully that will fix everything up for you, but if you had intentionally done some resizing/reframing in teh sequence then you may have to redo that work.

    Best

It is the responsibility of thew editor to correctly select the system and A/V settings prior to editing. Relying on FCP to guess the correct sequence settings is poor management.

Having selected the correct settings, which is usually very easy to do by selecting the correct easy setup, copy the edit clips from the wrong sequence to the new one. Select all clips and remove attributes>distort & Basic motion. This will reset everything to the correct aspect and frame size.

Any reframing that you had done in the original sequence will need to be reapplied as Andy said.

Yeah, the whole Remove Attributes thang is good … but its not as good as “Conform to Sequence” 😉

So long as it is done in a duplicate or new sequence.

I completely agree with Michael in regards to being responsible for the correct audio/video settings, however I am brand new to the world of video editing and Im sure there are good tutorials on how to correctly select system settings and the right audio video settings, if anyone knows of any they can suggest it would be extremely
    helpful, thanks

Surprisingly, the FCP manual is quite good at explaining Easy Setup. Also Shane Ross has tutorials about setting up workflow for FCP including advice on file naming and management of drives.

    Hi,
I know this is an old thread, but I am new to video editing. and I am facing a similar problem.

I have my sequence at frame size 1440×1080 anamorphic 16:9 off
and I need to change it to frame size 720×576 with anamorphic 16:9 on.

Ive done the make new sequence with the correct setting, copy clips from the old sequence then paste it to the new one. then conform all clips to sequence.

everything works beautifully except that the video now looks pixelated and the movement was bumpy.

whats wrong with this? how to fix it? does this means that I need to redo everything again? I have done the video editing of 4 sequences and I was just told that I was working with the wrong setting.

    HELP!
