February 17, 2008 at 4:36 pmIt’s no longer available… you need to upgrade to Studio 2.
You might call Apple direct… it was available some time ago for a nominal fee, but I think that’s long gone.

February 17, 2008 at 4:43 pmreally? But that costs another £450 and Ive already paid about £600 for final cut studio1 about 2 years ago? Seems pretty outrageous to me

This is not a downloadable update as as been discussed on this forum several times. You must purchase the Universal Update from Apple. This requires sending your original discs back to apple to receieve the 5.1 update.
However, I don’t believe Apple is selling this update any longer.

February 17, 2008 at 4:46 pmApparently you’ve not been around NLE editing very long… 5 years ago an avid that does less than what you’re using now cost in excess of $100,000US…
500 bucks for an upgrade that includes a $25,000 color correction app sounds dirt cheap to me.

2 years ago? Not outrageous at all. I upgrade every year. If you’re earning your living with this software, anything under $1,000 U.S. per year is nothing.
Included with Studio 2 is 2K version of Color which would have cost you $25,000 2 years ago. That’s worth the upgrade alone.

I’m sorry, but which part is outrageous?
That they no longer support a version of the software which they replaced over 9 months ago?
Or that they offered a $50 (plus postage), widely publicized “cross-grade” from FCP 5.0.x to FCP 5.1 for something like 18 months, but you didn’t take advantage of it?
Please pardon my lack of sympathy. It’s not personal. But you’re the umpteenth person to complain about this exact same “problem”.
To be fair, maybe you didn’t know about the cross grade offer. But it was pretty widely publicized. If you visited any FCP related forum over the last 2 years, it would have been pretty hard to miss.
