  • Please help with Alpha Channels and Boris

Posted by Samuel Frazier on September 20, 2005 at 1:11 pm

I’m running FCP 4.5 and Boris Red 3.02 and can’t seem to get files from Boris to be in their native transparent background state when opened in FCP. I’ve tried all the alpha channels Boris has to offer and am rendering to a Quicktime Animation, which I read is the only file format that FCP will read an alpha channel from. Still, each time the file I import is not transparent.
Is there some setting or something I’m missing? Thanks for any help!

Thanks for responding. Actually, I’m trying to use Boris as a stand alone generator. Boris transparencies work fine as a filter in FCP (even using the very same project that won’t be transparent when exported from the generator), and also seem to work when rendered on my PC and brought over to my Mac.
    Any thoughts?

    hey mus man

do they display their correct alpha when loaded into the viewer (with “Alpha” selected in the View popup) ?
if so, you might want to check they have the corect field dominance …. FCP can sometimes misinterpret the field dominance of a clip containing an embeded alpha channel, resulting in a clip which seems to lose it’s alpha in the timeline.

    cheers
    Andy
