  • Please help with advice for G5 purchase

Bought a Mac Mini for testing out the FCP Production Suite, but figure to give it a real fair shake (especially Motion) I might want to buy a G5. I was looking to buy a dual processor from Expercom (expercom.com) and was wondering:

1- If anyone has bought from this company, or heard anything about if they are reputable, good to deal with, etc.

2- I would add 2 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition video card. I could save around $200 USD if I bought these things from places like 4allmemory.com or buy.com. But Expercom will install these things and test out the system. So, is it a tricky thing to install these components or is it worth $200 to have some more experienced do it?

Thanks ahead of time for any thoughts or help!

Never heard of the company myself. I purchase from ClubMac.com most of the time.

I purchase all RAM from http://www.crucial.com as they are extremely reliable and make a very easy product matrix to ensure you order the correct RAM for your machine. RAM installation is a snap and installing a new graphics card is easy too. I just installed the ATI X800xt in mine.

mus, i purchased from expercom and they are definitely legit. nice thing about them is that they’re tax free(unless you live in utah) and give free shipping.

    Hi,

    I second the Crucial.com recommendation.

I have also made a couple of purchases from Expercom. No problems.

Although the no sales tax is a minor hassle. You need to (grin) save the receipts and add it all up by April 15 of the following year.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch

Realized I was reading crucial’s prices wrong. $237 for 1 sticks of 1 gig ram is nice.
Thanks again for all the input and advice!
