Please Help: Stuttering Video Preview after UPGRADE
Hi Folks:
New to this thread, but have been using Vegas Pro 8.0c for a while, on my 64bit Vista machine – without a problem – it has been terrific. This is a machine I bought from someone on craigslist, and it had Vegas pro on it already – so I did not have to pay for it – it was included with the computer I purchased. However, tonight, in order to take advantage of greater performance gains to be had, I paid for the 8.1 upgrade $550. I was told over the phone by a guy at Sony to uninstall my 8.0c and install the 8.1 download by itself, which I excitedly did. Now, upon opening previous projects, or even upon creating new projects, the video in the preview window stutters, badly. Audio is fine, but video stutters – making editing impossible. I checked all the obvious things – like project setting, etc, but I checked and changed a few of the preferences, did some searches through the vegas manual and tried a few things – all to NO avail. Tried the obvious – changing preview quality – but no matter which setting I put the preview quality at it still stutters, anywhere from draft to the best quality – they all play with the same stutter. The ONLY thing that has changed is that I am playing 8.0c projects inside 8.1. I was told that projects created in 8.0c would not in any way be adversly affected when played in 8.1. My system is very fast, Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 2.83GHz, 4GB CRUCIAL pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3 Ram, ASUS P5E3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP Mobo, SEAGATE 500gb SATA300 32mb 7200rpm Drives, Vista Ultimate 64bit OS, ATI Radeon HD 3870 512mb ddr4 GPU. Project settings are matched to the media and are as follows: Attributes: 1920 x 1080 x 24, Stream = Vid 1, Field Order = Progressive, PAR = 1, Alpha Channel = None, Rotation = 0, Frame Rate = IVTC 23.976.
Like I said, everything was working great in 8.0c. I am thinking of doing a system restore to prior to the 8.0c uninstall, and simply installing 8.1 over the top of 8.0c and see if that makes a difference. I don’t know what else to do. There must be a setting I am missing, something obvious – why would an upgrade to a 64bit compatible version cause video preview to stutter like this?
Any suggestions or help is most greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

That’s what I would do. You’re gonna need Vegas Pro 8.0c anyway because 8.1 can’t use any of the 32-bit video plug-ins for Vegas which makes 8.1 limited in it’s usefulness.
