October 17, 2005 at 12:47 pmDo not use the Adobe presets. Apple in FCP calculates the pixel aspect ratio differently from Adobe.

October 17, 2005 at 12:53 pmThe GeniusDV article is obsolete. It evens uses Windows PSD files as examples which don’t translate as layers into FCP.

October 17, 2005 at 12:57 pmUnfortunately it doesn’t matter how we calculate the math, but how Apple does in FCP. I have no idea why they arrived at these numbers, though I heard it had something to do with scaling PSD files when going from OLRT to full res. Regardless, those are the numbers that FCP uses to make its calculations and to load the file into a DV or a CCIR601 sequence. Sounds whacked to me, but there it is.

October 17, 2005 at 1:01 pmSo much for there not being any discrepancy in the size settings.
Since we can’t “take this outside,” who are we going to believe?
Are the numbers “original” numbers supposed to be 720×534 or 720×540 ?
We have on-line tutorials and experts in total disagreement.
Where do we go from here?

October 18, 2005 at 6:18 pmKen Stone is, unfortunately, incorrect. Bret is correct.
Creation size for DV is 720×534, downsized to 720×480.
Creation size for ITU-R BT.601 (formerly CCIR) is 720×540, downsized to 720×486.

October 19, 2005 at 9:05 amSo, to confrim, if we are using Photoshop 7 and not CS we should be scanning them in at 720×534 we can either downsize to 720×480, or leave at 720×534 size for assistant editors to resize in fcp? I was under the impression and believe it was noted here that if the asst editors wind up doing the resizing in FCP, the image may become distorted. Most images are being zoomed into , longest length 2000 pixels, 350 dpi. Sounds like best would be to downsize. All of this is currently in offline RT so imae qualiy is hard to determine in the cuts, and I want to be prepared for the online.
