  • Please help: A good shine/reflection effect

I need to create a convincing shine or gleam effect…where a beam of light runs across a product image to give it a reflective look. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty new to AE and do not know all the capabilities of it yet.

    Thanks in advance.

Try CC Light Sweep, or play with a masked white solid in add-mode

To add additional variation to the reflection, as though its running over a textured surface, you could use a displacement map to alter the reflection layer.

If you’re looking for realistic reflections then you might need to look at a true 3D product (Maya, 3DS Max, C4D, XSI, etc).

However, you could manage to fake it with the displacement map effect and a good input layer (if you’re familiar with normal maps, that could come in handy). Depending on the nature of your footage it may be difficult to generate quality input for the displacement map effect.
