I have a very simple scene in C4D. I rendered it and saved the .aec file. When I import it into After Effects, nothing happens. There is nothing in the file (no camera, lights, footage, etc.) I recently updated C4D to version 13.0.5.1. Is this plugin version not compatible with AE 5.0? The camera and lights do not move, so there are no keyframes to bake. There is only one object with an external compositing tag. I have used the C4D to AE plugin in the past without any trouble, now it is simply broken. I am about to uninstall C4D and re-install the original R13 release to see if that fixes the problem. However, I’m afraid I won’t be able to open the file as it was created with R13.0.5.1! Thoughts?

I just re-installed C4D. I now have version 13.016 (Build RC45040). I just downloaded the latest version of the AE plugin that is available from Maxon.net (“Plugin for After Effects CS3 – CS5 to CINEMA 4D R12 connection.”). There is no R13?!? When I import the .aec file into After Effects, nothing happens. There is no error message, nothing loads into the project. What am I doing wrong?

Luckily, my file created with C4D R13.0.5.1 still opens in R13.0.1.6. I just tried creating a test file. I created a camera with a few keyframes, a cube (converted to polys) with a few pos and rot keyframes and a spotlight. I applied the external compositing tag to the cube and clicked “solid” for good measure. I set my output options to all frames (0 to 90 default) and clicked Save .aec. Again, nothing is loaded into the After Effects project when I import the .aec file. Just to be sure, in Windows 7, the plugin should go in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5\Support Files\Plug-ins, right?

I use the plugin that is in the C4D R13 folder. ExchangePlugins > AfterEffects>Win>CS5-CS5.5

And yes it goes in the After Effects Plugins directory.

Used it today and it worked fine.

Yep, I’m an idiot. I was assuming the latest version of the plugin would be on MAXON’s website in the downloads section. There may be a good reason why it’s not there but I wasted about four hours this morning trying to figure out why the old (R12) version wasn’t working with R13. Thanks for you post and have a great weekend!
