  • Plays back only 6-7 frames at a time!

Just decided to try out Premiere Pro5 after the debacle of FCPX.
my system: – MacPro 2x3ghz Quad core intel xeon, 14gbs ram, os 10.6.5, ATI Radeon HD4870, AJA Kona 3, 12Tb Raid over fibre channel.

I’m having a really strange problem that i have no clue about solving as i have no knowledge of PP.I have tried the following with both an xml import and also a single clip imported.

I put the clips onto a sequence created using the AJA sequence templates (sd sized), press play and all it will play is around 6 to 7 frames at a time.its not even stuttering – just plays them nice and smoothy then stops until i hit play again and then i get another 6-7 frames only.

    any clues what might up?

If it’s like my AJA Kona LHe, you’ll have to go into the playback settings, and force it to SD out (otherwise, it’s outputting HD, and trying to conform your SD footage to that in real-time). Playback settings are under the Project menu.

sorry for the delay in responding – only just had a chance to re-look at this.

I think it might have helped, although i have also upgraded to CS5.5 since i asked the question.

I do find the entire application incredibly slow to respond to any mouse click, though! And talk about a slow startup !! sheesh!

That is odd, you have a screaming machine there in your possession it should boot up fast and smooth. I suggest that you do the ff:

    1. Boot in safe mode
    2. Run Disk Utility
    3. Verify Permission then Repair then Verify again
    4. Reboot

If that solves it, holler 🙂
