  • Playing Sony tapes on a Canon Elura

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is any problem with a Canon ELura playing back or digitally downloading tapes recorded on a Sony VR-900?

    Thanks.

I am not familiar with the Sony VR-900, but any DV camcorder that is working within spec should be able to record or play each others tapes (I’m talking about the info recorded on the tape, not the brand of tape itself). However, sometimes the heads get out of alignment and a tape recorded on an out of spec camera can only be played back on the camera that recorded it.

High def camcorders work the same way in theory using the HD specs, however, most manufacturers have come up with variations of the standards to record at various frame rates(24, 30, etc) or to record in real or simulated progressive modes. Most of these cameras can only play their own brand of video if recorded in one of the proprietary modes.
