    Hi all,
At our studio, we are handling more and more HD projects and while we have no intentions of becoming a ‘facility’ as such, we need a cost effective way of playing down HDTV (720p and 1080i) for frame checking and QC (quality Control).
We usually output our HD projects via Smoke or Flame. For the increasig needs of HD in-house, I would like to hear some opinions on how we can QC HD outputs before bringing rendered frames to Smoe/Flame for final output to D5, HDCAM, etc.
I’ve been looking in to Aja boards and Blackmagic solutions but the info on their site doesn’t indicate if their lower-end PC boards out compressed HDTV output.
Cost is a major consideration, so a full-blown HD I/O uncompressed is not required.

Can I set-up a simple 2 or 3 drive SATA RAID 0 on my PC and playback ‘lightly’ compressed HD to a JVC DT-V20L1DU 20″ without spending too much? We do not want to be a post house, per se, and would prefer to continue outputting at a post facility near us, but we need to see what we render at native res before goto to a facility.

Also, assuming there are HD solutions like this can they also I/O uncompressed SD with deck control as well? Being able to I/O SD (DBeta) with timecode and audio would be a nice bonus.

What reasonably priced solutions have you folks used that will serve us well? How do you work with AE and HD?

    Thanks for any input.

U should check out the AJA forums – they have boards/cards that will out-put your HDV and HD without a prob.
They have low-cost reliable products with great support.
