    Hi,

I recently shot a project at 720p30p. It was a Christmas party with a lot of games and high energy. I captured and transferred to my hard drive, which has plenty of space on it (151GB after transfer). The computer is MAC with OSX 10, 2.66 GHZ Core 2 and 4 GB memory.
When I try to look at the footage, the clips which are flashier (more movement, noise) stutter and freeze, while the clips with less flash play through all the way. I don’t know what the problem could be. Is it related to storing it on the hard drive, or could it be a RAM issue? We’ve never had a problem like this before with the computer, but also our video is usually stored on externals.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Liam

You’ve already got it figured out… The only difference in this and other projects is where you have the media stored. That would do it.

I would also bet that your footage is in a compressed codec that your computer is having trouble decoding on the fly.

Since it would be better to have your footage on an external drive, perhaps it would be a great opportunity for you to run your footage through Compressor, converting it to ProRes (NOT ProRes HQ) and set your destination to an external drive.

How is your media drive connected?

    Hindsight is always 1080p

That seems to have been it. I bought a new external and hooked it up, then ran from the external and ‘backed up’ to the hard drive. Appears to be working.
    Thanks for the tips.
