  • Playback problems with FCP 5

Posted by Mark Jackson on February 14, 2006 at 9:11 pm

I have been experiencing some playback problems with my FCP 5. When I play a sequence in the timeline, it randomly hesitates and then it plays fine.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

I’m running Final Cut Pro 5 on a Mac G5 with Dual 2GHZ and 1.5 DDR SDRAM.

    Thanks

Where does the media reside? On a separate drive than the Operating System? Hope so.

Does this happen in the same place, or randomly?

The media is locate on an external Lacie firewire drive. No. It doesn’t happen on the same frame or spot in the timeline. It’s random.

If I export the sequence as a quicktime movie and reimport into FCP, do you think I would have any problems with playback in the timeline?

Try it. That is a good work around that I myself use.

When you say random – does it pause momentarily mid-playback, or is it slow to respond to your play command initially? Those external drives can sometimes spin down to save power if they are idle for a short while, needing time to spin up again when you hit play. This causes a delay between pressing play and the timeline responding. Just a thought.
