    Hi,

I apologise if this isn’t the right place to post this question, but I thought someone here might know the answer. We’re a largely Apple-based post facility, and we’re currently trying to integrate PCs into our workflow. Right now we’re having trouble playing back uncompressed HD on Windows. It’s encoded as Apple Uncompressed 4:2:2 and it just won’t play back in real-time. Disk bandwidth shouldn’t be an issue at all: it’s a BOXX workstation with 10 striped disks in it (RAID 5). It plays back 2K dpx sequences perfectly.

Does anyone else here regularly play uncompressed HD QuickTimes on Windows? Is QuickTime somehow ‘broken’ on PCs, or are we doing something wrong?

    I’d appreciate any input.

    Many thanks,

    Tom

If it plays DPX fine then it’s definitely a Quicktime issue. You could try buying QT Pro and see if that makes a difference, although it probably won’t.

Another option is to not use QT at all. There are other ways to play QT movies on Windows. Try searching the internet for “Quicktime Alternative”.
