Playback of SD material sticky but, HD plays fine
Hi everybody,
I have projects in SD and HD and have had very little problems with either until just a few days ago. The SD project I’ve been working on, has suddenly started to stick in random spots on playback. The image freezes while the playhead continues on it’s merry way. It doesn’t become unstuck until I hit the spacebar a couple times. It starts playing again, very stuttery then it finally freezes again while the playhead continues.Everything has been rendered.
The problem happens when playing the clips in the clip viewer, too.
I was getting dropped frame messages so, I closed FCPX, rebooted the computer and started over. This has most always fixed that little issue but, not this time.
Now, if this is a drive issue, wouldn’t you think that the HD material, on the same drive would be affected similarly? I would but, it’s not. The HD material plays fine in the timeline and the clip viewer.
I want to be clear in that, this has just started happening on projects that were running fine a few days ago.
And none of this material is being used or mixed in the same projects.
I have SD only projects and HD only projects.
Only the SD projects are affected.My editing machine is a 2008 MacPro, 2×2.8GHz QuadCoreIntelXeon, 16GB ram, OS 10.8.5.
FCPX is 10.0.9It seems strange to me that HD material plays fine but, the SD does not.

Why are you on such an old version of FCPX? That said, has the media been optimized?

of course it has. Like I said, all this was running fine until a few days ago.
I use an old version because I don’t want to upgrade my OS.

I’d go through the usual preferences trashed, etc. Try on a different drive- might be going bad.
