  • Playback of MP4 files on MAC system

I am running an IMAC OSX 10.9.4
What is the best way to play back MP4 files on a MAC system?
My default to open them is MPEG streamclip, but I seem to get stuttery playback.
Is there a codec I can load to watch them in quicktime player? Or a better option to play MP4s back smoothly?
The files I have been having trouble playing back are the ones I compress in Sorensen Squeeze, using the default 1080 youtube export settings. Any suggestions appreciated.

Though no longer in development, the Perian codec suite is still available from MacUpdate
Works fine for MP4 with Quicktime Player.
    Also try VLC Media Player.
