Playback Issues Deck Link Studio 2
Hello “Creative Cows”,
I have a Deck Link Studio 2. I work with Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5.
My problems are:
I get dropped frames on every cut within the timeline. But only when using avchd and DSLR footage. I don’t get any dropped frames when using xdcam ex or uncompressed footage. It sure not my raid speed or latency.
The BMD DiskSpeedTest gave my 559MB write and 531MB read!
When using avchd or dslr footage in a non BMD sequence I don’t get issues.
So far I transcode all of this “problem footage” in to Cineform, which works fine.SECOND AND BIGGEST PROBLEM: I can’t do any speed changes. I.e.. Increasing speed to 110% will still be played as 100% or BMD just outputs a still frame from the file.
BUT: if I put any effect (like fast color correction) on the piece I’ve changed the speed, it playes correctly! Why?Third: Sometimes audio just droppes out during playback.
What I have done:
– changed PCIe slots
– reinstalled drivers
– updated motherboard bios
– even reinstalled fresh windows, CS5 and driversAll problems are still the same.
My system specs are:
– asus p6t deluxe v2
– deck link studio 2 (on 2nd PCIe x16 v2 slot)
– intel saswt41 raid 0 (4*1TB) (on PCIe x4 slot)
– nVidia GTX 570
– system drive is a ssd
– windows 7 ulimate x64I get non of these problems when using it on a non BMD sequence preset.
(Same problems with CS5 before)
(no issues with After Effects at all)Any help or suggestion would be great, because otherwise I need to sell the deck link 🙁

Hello Robert,
your system specs are good, and I use the Decklink Studio 2 on the P6T Deluxe without problems (in any PCI-E slot).I don’t use Premiere, but it seems to be a Preset problem. Which one are you using?

For one project had got 1080/25p footage from a Canon EOS7 and than using a BMD preset for 1080/DSLR/25p = Droped frames.
I tried MJpeg, uncompressed and other presets didn’t help me.At the same time I editet 1080/50i footage from a sony ex1 on a BMD/1080/xdcam ex/50i sequence – no droped frames, no problems.
I tried other codex and formats like mpeg HD streams, uncompressed, pro res, dnxhd and it playes back as it should. I only get issues with avchd/h.264 stuff i.e.: .mp4, .mts etc.
BUT speed changes are not working on any mformat/ preset.
Might it be a hardware related problem?

Does Premiere reports the dropped frames or do you see jerky playback on the Decklink output only?

Premiere reports droped frames, only on scene changes I get droped frames. In the sequenze settings I turnes warnings about droped frames of, but it than just randomly stops on scene changes.

Have you tried to drop out the Decklink output and using another (standard not Blackmagic) preset for VGA preview only? Does Premiere still drop frames?

There are no problems with normal settings. When i copy the content of a sequence in to a non BMD sequenze (standard premiere presets) its all perfect!
I wrote my situation also to BMD support, they might solved such issue before?

Hey,
one answer I recived from BMD says “there is a known issue with speed changes in Premiere Pro. This has been logged with our developers and they are looking into this issue.”
The support asked more questions about the droped frames issue, I answered. Lets see.I worked on several final cut suits with same deck link cards, there was no trouble…
So I’ll sell the card, exept BMD or Adobe comes up with an update.
