  • Playback Files in CS3

    Hey folks,

I’ve been using Premiere CS3, and have always had a problem with most files I import, i.e, .mov, .wmv, .mp4. My system won’t play it back cleanly, unless I put it on the timeline and render it out. Am I missing codecs that would allow me to skip that step? Any other advice?

    Thanks

    Wouldn’t playback with what?
You should include a system description

It’s running on Vista with dual Intel Pentium CPU 2.80 GHz processors with 4 gb RAM. The OS doesn’t have any problem playing those files on quicktime or windows media player; just in Premiere.

If you were missing codecs you wouldn’t be able to play them, the problem is your system is under powered(dual core pentium) for realtime playback of certain HD flavors without rendering, CS3 also has some software limitations for later codec versions, codecs come out then systems and software has to play catchup, smooth realtime editing of AVCHD is looking at fast quad core processors, 64bit OS and CS5 with the Mercury playback system.
