I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9. I am doing some editing with football highlights and was wondering if there is a way to adjust the speed of footage besides the Ctrl+click and drag method.

I need a smoother work flow for adjusting the speed of my footage. In order to make the reel look good I am using the same speeds for all the footage (All the clips are either 1.5x, .75x, and normal speed). The Crtl+drag method is very cumbersome as the length of the footage changes everything. I have to divide the length of the clip by the speed I want (1.5x or .75x) and then drag the clip accordingly to trim off the right length to achieve the speed I want. (What I do with all the footage I want to speed up is group them together and adjust their speed all at once. This speeds things up, but is still kind of unintuitive when you have to add footage or return to it normal speed.)

Please advise if there are any other methods for changing the speed of clips within Vegas. It would be awesome if I could create a preset (1.5x) and just drag it onto the clip as you would an effect.

Just right-click on the event and select Properties and then change the Playback rate: to the speed you want.

That seems to do the job (for speeding clips up), but why doesn’t the length of the clip change to adjust for the new speed when you adjust the playback rate?

For speeding events up, it just plays the clip more than once.

If I slow down a clip this way, only part of the original clip plays in the time adjusted event.

It definitely speeds things up for me but seems weird that it doesn’t adjust the length of the clip.

Kind of a preference thing I guess but when you’re editing in the middle of a timeline you wouldn’t want events to start overlaping just because you changed their playback speed. I know sometimes yo do and sometimes you don’t so I guess Sony thought the safest approach was not to. You just need to adjust the end of the clip until you see the divot that flags the loop point.

Ahhh I see, the divot really makes the difference.

Thanks so much I really appreciate it John.
