  • Placing objects in 3D space to match camera

I have been trying to emulate the MTV sort of motion graphics where objects pop up somewehre and the camera moves toward or away from them to other objects which pop up somewhere else. They make the camera travel in all sorts of funky ways. My problem is once the camera has moved I find it extremely difficult to place the next object in such a way that the that the animation continues. The object usually falls into place at the camera’s first position and it takes a while to move it in 3D space to where the camera is. How can I continue to work in front of the camera once I have moved it? Is this the best way to do these sorts of motion graphics?

    Thanks
    Dave

    You could try this:

In the beginning, parent a comp-sized 3D Null to your camera at the standard 3d position.
This will never appear to move, as it travels along with the cam and fills the viewport. Hide it’s eyeball if you will.

Now whenever you need to position a new layer:

    duplicate the Null,
unparent the dupe, (Enable the Eyeball)
alt-drop your new layer onto it to replace the null.

Thanks a million. I will try that.
