Pixelation/noise FCP
Hey there,
I was wondering if you can help. I have a problem with a clip I have shot on a Canon 5D MkII and edited on fcp. The clips have been converted into Apple ProRes 422 before being edited on FCP (I used Mpeg Streamclip).
The final video has got 6 video tracks (I wanted to give the video a cross processed film look) and only one music audio track.
The video seems to go pixelated/noisy in the midtones/shadow areas and I was wondering if it was because of the use of overlays or because I’ve given the video some cyan tones or if it’s the video compression. I should have probably used Apple XCAM HD 1080p25 (35Mb/s VBR)…
What do you think?
GAlso, what’s the best format for the web for a 1min clip?

Pixelation and noise are different issues.
The pixelation comes because the H264 used by the DSRLs is 420 (same structure than DV PAL).
if you just transcode to Prores, the pixelation remains.
Try an application call 5DtoRGB (free) for the transcoding.
Is well know that the DSRLs can do incredible beautiful pictures and really horrible things to. There is a lot of literature about the pros and cons of those cameras. Is important to know when to use them or when use a real video camera.
