    Hi

Firstly, apologies, I’m a bit of a newbie!

What I’m trying to create is a DVD slideshow for a client. On each slide they want a portrait of a person with a paragraph of text alongside it. The problem I’m having is that when I export an MPEG2 from Premiere, ready for Encore, the text gets pixelated and fuzzy around the edges.

What I’m doing is creating each slide in Photoshop using the PAL DV/D1 Widescreen square pixel preset and the text I’m using is 18pt Myriad Pro, in a burgundy colour on an off-white background.

I’ve checked all the output settings from Adobe Media Encoder and ensured all the settings are as high as possible so I’m sure I must be doing something else wrong along the way. I’m sure smaller text is clearer on professional DVD’s.

If anyone could explain how they would have approached a project like this then that would much appreciated.

    Thanks

Sometimes it can be an issue with the size of the text etc, but what I would suggest you try is rendering the video out as uncompressed and then letting Encore do the transcode for you. It’s worked for me in the past.

Also turn off Anti Alias in PS.

Not quite an exact match for your problem but the last time I had these ‘fuzzy edges’ in an MPEG2 export from Premiere Pro (v2) using media encoder it was from titles I had created in the title tool.

I simply had the title on layer 1 and exported. Got fuzzy edges even though it all looked on in preview.

When I placed the title on layer 2 and a black video on layer 1 all was OK.

Might be worth a try if you are still having this problem and your Photoshop file has an alpha channel.

i had a quick try turning off the anti-aliasing in Photoshop but it made the text look quite crude, so I’m going to just try and improve the output from Premiere. Thanks for the pointer though!

i had a try exporting the video as uncompressed AVI but when i then try and create the DVD in encore it throws up an error. I think it may be a clash with codecs or something.

Are you using VBR or CBR encoding for your Mpegs.
I’ve noticed the CBR makes much cleaner edges in general.
I’ve also had trouble with text from AE in PPro and have found that for still text, using the PPro Titler is superior.
